A Pocket Guide to the Last Gaelic Empire

Whether you are an expatriate Highlander, Irish tribesman, a simple historian, or perhaps someone who wants an interesting but accurate historical read for whatever reason, welcome to the first site of its kind.

This site is written in the style of a guidebook to the Last Gaelic Empire, written in 1412, from the perspective of a native. I am a native Gael, and even though my family does not trace its ancestry back to the lands ruled by the last of the Gaelic dynasties, I feel that too little know about such an extraordinary culture that has contributed so much to the modern world, and that it is my duty, as one of those few who have learned about the immense scale of Gaelic influence and the truth about the culture, which is disfigured beyond recognition by films that are nothing more than fantasy and ignored by misguided public opinion, and its history, to share what I have learned with the millions of expatriate Gaels, and anyone else who takes an interest in the collective human history.

Much of the research is my own, based on the Lordship's equivalent of official records - family tales and great ballads. I have included things that were mentioned more than once by the people I questionned about any stories that were passed in their family from one generation to the next, and that appeared more than once in other sources, either contemporary or from modern research other than my own.

I hope you enjoy reading this. Before I let you browse the writings done in the name of my alter-ego, I'll tell you that I have added more detail to the guidebook in red where appropriate, and that clicking on some things (e.g. birlinn, brogans, plaid, and most placenames) will take you to a page specifically about that item or event.
