Eilean na Comhairle, or Island of the Council, is a man-made island in Loch Finlaggan which dates to 5000BC. It has been occupied for most of that time, and was probably built for the Pictish broch that was built on it, but the broch has since been demolished and there is now a great castle there, alongside a building where the council meets

The castle is made of massive lime mortared walls, and so heavy is this building that the island has had to be supported by a wall of similar size to those of the castle.

There is also a building specifically for the council to meet, which is built similar to the castle, although it is much larger than the castle and it has been more lavishly decorated, with walrus ivory, the finest Norse oak, silver, and granite carvings.

The island is accessed by either a pier, or the causeway that connects it to Eilean Mor.
