Orcadians

The Orcadians are a Norse culture that hails from the seventy islands in the Orcadian archipelago, just off of the northwestern tip of the Highlands. They retain many features of the early Norse cultures that even the modern Norse populations both here and in Scandinavia have forgotten. The islands are most famous for their ancient monuments, and I would recommend a visit there.

So, how does this relate to the Lordship of the Isles? The Norse colonists which make up a large part of the population include some Orcadians (although they number less than the Saami) who are most often found in the Western Isles, at the far northern end no less. Orcadian dress is no longer a feature of Gaelic-Orcadian life, but the Norn language, to an extent, is.
