Lochaber Axe

The Lochaber axe is one of the main weapons of the Lordship of the Isles, and most of our clansmen are in possession of one. It is mostly used for farming because of the hook on the back, but on the battlefield is has many purposes.

Our soldiers require armament against the heavy cavalry of Scotland, and this axe can be used as a halberd against a mounted knight. It also allows our warriors to create a defensive wall against an infantry charge, and can be used as a pike against warriors who do not have a mount. Because of its ability to hack through armour, it is a preferred weapon of the soldiers at the front of a line, who must break through the enemy's defences.

The blade is about twenty inches long, similar to that of a berdiche, with a hook at the back (some people have said that these hooks were used to scale walls, but they were mainly used for dragging knights from their horses), and langlets were placed on each side of the shaft to make it impossible to cut the head off.
